About
The girls league was formed in 2004 with approx 19 teams. Following its success and the amount of interest generated from the first development season, the league was restructured as an affiliated league in 2005 and called The Northumberland Girls League.
Whilst the league does have a very competitive edge to it and formal divisional winners and runners up receive prizes, we place a lot of emphasis on participation and development.
There were over 60 teams taking part in 2006/07 and each successive season has seen the number of teams taking part increase.
In June 2008 the league joined forces with the Northumberland Women's County League and was renamed The Northumberland Girls and Women's Football League (NGWFL). The combined league provides playing opportunities for girls and women from age 8 upwards.
